East Lothian is well known for being a golfing mecca and has been appropriately named “Scotland’s Golf Coast“. The breath taking coastline is home to 22 fantastic courses and hosts some of Scotland’s best links courses including Muirfield and North Berwick. The chiselled and sculpted coastline makes an extraordinary golfing backdrop. From the iconic Bass Rock to looking out over the glinting Firth Of Forth, East Lothian is one of Scotland’s best golfing regions.

Our Favourite Golf Courses

Muirfield has hosted 16 open championships and considered to be one of the best golf courses in Scotland. Muirfield has been carved into the undulating and sand dune occupied East Lothian coastline. Muirfield provides one of the greatest challenges in links golf and the clockwise front nine and anti-clockwise back nine means golfers have to battle the swirling wind from all sides.

Gullane is a quaint golf orientated seaside town situated in the heart of East Lothian. Gullane has three quality links courses to choose from. However Gullane No1 is the signature course, hosting the Scottish Open in 2015 and 2019. The smooth greens, traditional pot bunkers and unforgiving thick rough makes the course a stern challenge for the most seasoned of golfers.

North Berwick is without doubt one of Scotland’s best and most historic links courses. With unforgettable views over the town of North Berwick, Bass Rock and Craigleith, North Berwick supplements a challenging and traditional layout with sublime surroundings.

The Renaissance Club oozes class and sophistication while providing a stiff golfing test. The club was established in 2008 and has grown a formidable reputation in the last decade. Built on the natural wind swept dunes, The Renaissance course blurs modern course design with a traditional links style. The club is looking forward to hosting the 2019 Scottish Open and we highly recommend playing this challenging links course.

Archerfield Golf Club is one of Scotland’s finest golfing complexes, with two championship courses, a custom fitting centre, range and short game area. The Fidra course is set within  beautiful Scottish pines but still maintains a links feel. The Dirleton has a more traditional links feel to it with deep pot bunkers, menacing dunes and smooth greens.

Our Favourite Hotels

Greywalls Hotel is well placed on the edge of Muirfield Golf Course and has beautiful views over the 9th and 18th holes. Grey Walls was built in 1901 by acclaimed architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The hotel is famed for its elegance with 23 ensuite rooms, a drawing room and exceptional dining options.

Macdonald Marina Hotel & Spa
has spectacular views over North Berwick’s famed West Course. The hotel has great facilities which include an award winning thermal spa, swimming pool and a double AA rosette restaurant.

The Balmoral Hotel –
Often our clients want to visit and stay in Edinburgh at some point on their golf tour. Edinburgh is only a half an drive from the best courses in East Lothian. We highly recommend the luxurious Balmoral Hotel. The Barmoral Hotel is famously situated at No1 Princes Street. With unrivalled views of Edinburgh castle and a Michelin starred restaurant, The Barmoral makes the perfect retreat after a long day on the links.
